实验艺术公开课四:物质化与化物质

“物质化与化物质”的实验艺术公开课之第四讲,张国龙老师为我们梳理了这堂课产生的美术史缘由并大胆展望了艺术在未来的发展趋势。

张老师首先介绍了今天中央美院的“实验艺术系(学院)”是如何从国、油、版、雕的资源背景下由“综合材料”的课程发展而来的。通过从“材料”到“物质化”再到“化物质”等一系列概念的复杂转变,张国龙老师又为我们澄清并介绍了这门“物质化与化物质”课程的由来始末。他指出“物质化”是强调技术性和“做”,而“化物质”更多是强调艺术创作中的跨界、交差、置换和转移等特性。所谓“物质化”,一方面是把原来画画的“画”(动词)变成“做”;另一方面是把造型的“型”变成“态”,也就是说艺术品变成互动的、语境的甚至动态的;把原来的画内空间(即二维空间)变成三维空间。当代艺术更多强调的是场景化、参与化和娱乐化,这样就制止了一些从观念到观念、从精神到精神的纯观念性表达。

对于“物质化和化物质”这门课程的教学安排,张老师介绍说在4-6周的时间里大致的教学思路是这样的:一、我们应该从传统基础(国、油、版、雕)出发,从原来的认知感知入手而不是凭空进行创作;二、从对物象的认知切入,以达到材料的转换与物质的深入;三、从对学术的材料语言进行研究,以做到在公共空间中进行作品展示。

张国龙老师出版的《当代艺术材料空间》一书在目录中体现出“画语”、“物语”、“话语”再到“展示”(语境)的递进关系,是他对20世纪当代艺术发展脉络的一种归纳。张国龙老师强调的是物质的“材性”,比如我们现在把原先兼有装饰和实用功能的油画框本身当作作品的一部分看待。随着照相机的发明,画家不用再画画了。于是,颜料、画框本身成为了主角。“物质”的地位,从农户变成了主人,走向了前台,它比画画更直接。而艺术家的姿态转而变得需要去顺应,因为“材料不会以你的意志为转移。”围绕《当代艺术材料空间》一书的关键词,张老师进行了如下讨论:

一、“画语”方面,我们可以从湿壁画、油画、丙烯之间的发明替代关系看到绘画材料的变化,而克莱因让女裸体在画布上印自己身体印迹的行动式创作则进一步颠覆了作画的语言方式。此外,张国龙老师特意强调了对空间独立性的尊重,“空间概念在当代艺术中是新的学科,不利用空间是一种浪费”。

二、说到“物语”,从杜尚的小便器出现以来,各种软性材料、硬性材料、有机材料都进入到了艺术创作之中并成为主角。现在,更新的材料——光,成为了新领域的一种试验。它是“上帝赐予的物质化呈现”,为场景化的呈现提供了绝好的语言材料。由此,张国龙老师更进一步,针对未来艺术发展趋势提出了“雾化”的设想,认为什么都可以成为艺术创作的材料,什么都可以成为艺术品。

三、关于“话语”,“艺术是社会的一部分,所有的载体就是话筒,要说什么非常重要,关键词非常重要。”一语中的,将艺术尤其是实验艺术的意义摆了出来。如何做到?“我们常常说要深入生活!其实你自己就是生活,宇宙也是生活,万事万物都是生活。”这样,当我们整合外部或自身的资源时,我们就创造了艺术。

四、最后关于“展示”部分,张老师认为核心问题在于空间和语境。CCTV塔楼的建筑设计师曾说过:什么是大师级的建筑师,就是敢浪费空间的建筑师。“这就是艺术的唯一性。”“空间概念,其实就是场景概念。”张国龙老师认为每个空间要很清楚,我们要在其中做减法,使之产生互文关系。在场景概念的基础上,他认为“梦象化”可能会成为将来的发展趋势,比如电影《阿凡达》和前段时间美术馆的《千里之行》展的获奖作品《海公子》一样,能使人的感觉不断生成的才是艺术。当然现存的艺术形式也会并存,“艺术不是一种取代,它是一种丰富。”

贯穿讲座始终,张国龙老师一直在强调“寻找增长点,寻找新的可能性”,我们应该寻找自己的祖先,注重上下文关系,以此推进艺术前进和发展。这样的思想启发了我们对艺术创作的认知思路。

CAFA can publish these materials by electronic, web, or other digital means, and I hereby agree to be included in the China Knowledge Resource Bank, the CAFA Database, the CAFA Art Museum Database, and related data, documentation, and filing institutions and platforms. Regarding their use in CAFA and dissemination on the internet, I agree to make use of these rights according to the stated Rules.

CAFA Art Museum Event Safety Disclaimer

Article I

The museum does not undertake civil or joint liability for the personal safety of event participants.

Article V

During the event, event participants should respect the order of the museum event and ensure the safety of the museum site, the artworks in displays, exhibitions, and collections, and the derived products. If an event causes any degree of loss or damage to the museum site, space, artworks, or derived products due to an individual, persons not involved in the accident and the museum do not undertake any liability for losses. The event participant must negotiate and provide compensation according to the relevant legal statutes and museum rules. The museum may sue for legal and financial liability.

Article VI

Event participants will participate in the event under the guidance of museum staff and event leaders or instructors and must correctly use the painting tools, materials, equipment, and/or facilities provided for the event. If a participant causes injury or harm to him/herself or others while using the painting tools, materials, equipment, and/or facilities, or causes the damage or destruction of the tools, materials, equipment, and/or facilities, the event participant must undertake all related liability and provide compensation for the financial losses. Persons not involved in the accident and the museum do not undertake any liability for personal accidents.

CAFA Art Museum Portraiture Rights Licensing Agreement

According to The Advertising Law of the People’s Republic of China, The General Principles of the Civil Law of the People’s Republic of China, and The Provisional Opinions of the Supreme People’s Court on Some Issues Related to the Full Implementation of the General Principles of the Civil Law of the People’s Republic of China, and upon friendly negotiation, Party A and Party B have arrived at the following agreement regarding the use of works bearing Party A’s image in order to clarify the rights and obligations of the portrait licenser (Party A) and the user (Party B):

I. General Provisions

(1) Party A is the portraiture rights holder in this agreement. Party A voluntarily licenses its portraiture rights to Party B for the purposes stipulated in this agreement and permitted by law.

(2) Party B (CAFA Art Museum) is a specialized, international modern art museum. CAFA Art Museum keeps pace with the times, and works to create an open, free, and academic space and atmosphere for positive interaction with groups, corporations, institutions, artists, and visitors. With CAFA’s academic research as a foundation, the museum plans multi-disciplinary exhibitions, conferences, and public education events with participants from around the world, providing a platform for exchange, learning, and exhibition for CAFA’s students and instructors, artists from around the world, and the general public. As a public institution, the primary purposes of CAFA Art Museum’s public education events are academic and beneficial to society.

(3) Party B will photograph all CAFA Public Education Department events for Party A.

II. Content, Forms of Use, and Geographical Scope of Use

(1) Content. The content of images taken by Party B bearing Party A’s likeness include: ① CAFA Art Museum ② CAFA campus ③ All events planned or executed by the CAFAM Public Education Department.

(2) Forms of Use. For use in CAFA’s publications, products with CDs, and promotional materials.

(3) Geographical Scope of Use

The applicable geographic scope is global.

The media in which the portraiture may be used encompasses any media that does not infringe upon Party A’s portraiture rights (e.g., magazines and the internet).

III. Term of Portraiture Rights Use

Use in perpetuity.

IV. Licensing Fees

The fees for images bearing Party A’s likeness will be undertaken by Party B.

After completion, Party B does not need to pay any fees to Party A for images bearing Party A’s likeness.

Additional Terms

(1) All matters not discussed in this agreement shall be resolved through friendly negotiation between both parties. Both parties may then sign a supplementary agreement, provided it does not violate any laws or regulations.

(2) This agreement comes into effect on the date that it is signed (sealed) and the relevant boxes are selected by Party A and Party B.

(3) This agreement exists in paper and electronic forms. The paper form is made in duplicate, with Party A and Party B each retaining one copy with the same legal efficacy.

Event participants implicitly accept and undertake all the obligations stated in this agreement. Those who do not consent will be seen as abandoning the right to participate in this event. Before participating in this event, please speak to your family members to obtain their consent and inform them of this disclaimer. After participants sign/check the required box, participants and their families will be seen as having read and agreed to these terms.
