从观众视角看雷安德罗•埃利希的创作

巨大而精巧的景观,超现实的情景,乐此不疲的观众……从步入展厅的那一刻起,一种独属于雷安德罗·埃利希(Leandro Erlich)的创作特征,瞬时间涌入视野,冲刷并震颤着人们的感官。



浮动的场域性

《建筑》横陈于展厅中央,它在艺术家的创作脉络里担当着重要的地位。雷安参照“唐人街”的景观风格,设计了一幢平铺于地面的“建筑”。同时将硕大的镜面,以45度的折角悬于“建筑”上方。观众可自由地选取姿势与“建筑”互动,并借助镜面成像实现超现实的效果。

对于这件作品无需赘述,2004年以来它在世界各地展出,包括法国、澳大利亚、阿根廷、日本等;每巡回至一处,雷安会参照当地的环境对“建筑”的外观进行调整。此次呈现,雷安将其调整为唐人街的样貌,圆融了空间上的疏离感和风格上的温存感;借由唐人街,作品与场域之间的关系显得若即若离。

从上世纪的极少主义到大地艺术,“特定场域性艺术”逐步演化成型;这一类型的艺术,要求人们在观看的同时,考虑作品与其所在环境之间的关联。与此同时,艺术家也开始将场域的文化和历史,纳入到创作的范畴。雷安在创作初期便精于此道,2000年他与朱迪·魏森共同完成了作品《旅游》(非本次展览作品),在哈瓦那打造了一间以雪景为主题的摄影棚,当地人可站在场景中拍摄出逼真的雪景照片。雷安回忆:“当时我决定与哈瓦那的社会,政治和地理环境建立联系。”古巴不仅不下雪,而且政府禁止公民出国旅游,彼时古巴人甚至很少拥有照片;而《旅游》恰恰将这些与现实背反的体验,全盘交付给了古巴人。

《旅游》确切地与场域发生了关系,假如抽离了古巴这个展示场所,作品便不再成立。相较之下,《建筑》与场域的关系显得更加“浮动”,雷安并没有根植于社会、政治等因素设定“建筑”的形态;倘若将“唐人街”替换成美术馆周边的建筑样式,或许也未尝不可;“特定场域性”变得不那么“特定”,而转为一种“软化”的处理。雷安最终的诉求,是建立作品与当地观众之间的熟悉感。

雷安作品的面貌,亦不同于大多拉美艺术家,他很少使用廉价而简陋的材料,而是选用更精密,工业化程度更高的材料;作品涉及的场景和物品,大都贴合全球通用的样式,比如电梯、泳池、机舱、发廊和试衣间;雷安甚至会有意拉近作品与地域的关系,比如《建筑》,《教室》都加入了中国元素。这一切同样意在建立熟悉感,引领观众不设防地进入到作品中。


赋权于观众

艺术家煞费苦心地为观众铺设了一条进入作品的“坦途”,那么站在观众的视角,他们将会经历什么?

观看雷安的作品可大致分为三个阶段。以《美发沙龙》为例,观众进入后,首先会在逼真的场景中发现异于现实的部分——有些“镜子”反射的不是自己,而是陌生人的像。随后,观众如同侦探一样,循着已知的线索,找出艺术家虚构现实的技术——异常的“镜子”并不存在,它们只是窗口,通向了隔壁布景一致的房间。第三阶段则最为重要,当一切“真相大白”后,观众便安心地将作品视为“影棚的布景”,在其中自如地观赏,表演和拍摄。他们通常在短时间内习得规则和技巧,与作品的“互动”更像是一次与雷安的“共谋”。

面对雷安的作品,人们自觉地扮演着观看者,表演者和拍摄者的多重身份;多数人还会将现场拍摄的影像成果,分享到社交网络上。可以说从观看到传播,雷安将创作的权力赋予了观众;这区别于大多数艺术品单向度,自上而下的观看和传播模式。雷安尊重了观众对作品多元化的解读,并有效地调动他们的洞察力和创造力,促使其自愿参与到创作中;不同地域的文化特征,也在观众的创作中得以显现。

这种参与式的艺术实践由来已久,早在1967年,由加拿大国家电影局(NFB)的导演柯林·罗(Colin Low)与唐纳德·斯诺登(Donald Snowden) 完成的“福古岛程序”(Fogo Process) ,即是著名的案例。导演找到纽芬兰地区落后的“福古岛”,教会他们操作摄影机,并引导其自由地拍摄。最终将这些短片完整地保留,用于在当地公开放映和讨论。借此,岛民们开始意识到共同面临的问题,并团结起来寻求解决之道,甚至影响了当地政府的决策。

“福古岛程序”带有强烈的人类学色彩,虽然目的不同,但在“赋权”这一要素上,与雷安的作品高度一致。“福古岛程序”对岛民拍摄的影像形式并无要求,而是更注重所摄内容和参与性机制的设计。雷安的作品亦是如此,对观众如何表演、拍摄和传播丝毫不设限制,“赋权”取缔了对艺术形式感的要求;当观众们创作的成果越多元,“赋权”才会越有效。

因此,雷安需要做的,是在作品中留给观众再创作的余地。为此,他需暂且搁置作品的“完整性”,转而开发作品被观众“引用”和“作为素材”的可能性。在观众的二次创作中,雷安的作品未必被作为主体,更多充当表演的“舞台”;而一座好的“舞台”应当足够坚实和宽阔,能承载更多表演样式,包含更多的视角,容纳更多观众,这些同样是雷安的工作重心。


“超真实”建构的“太虚之境”

谈到这里,可以将雷安的创作分为两个部分;其一是作品本体,其二则是观众产生的二次创作;大多数评论聚焦于对前者的讨论,而对后者缺乏关注;观众的创作虽在雷安的工作范畴之外,却主导了作品的核心价值,也成就了其艺术最为独特之处。

正如前文所比喻的那样,当观众们谙熟了“游戏规则”后,便开始了表演和拍摄。他们通常会选取最佳的视角,避免镜头中出现“穿帮”细节;演技超群的观众,甚至会将姿势摆得更吻合“假象”。

而作为分享平台的社交网络,不仅为传播提供了便利,也为照片的逼真效果进一步背书。与伴侣或孩子一同参与“表演”时,观众便将真实的社会关系混入精心营造的“假象”上。此外,在社交网络上分享感受,添加的实时的地点信息,在照片上标注日期水印……这些社交网络的常规操作,都在用真实的信息为“假象”做担保。当放置在美术馆空间的作品,被压缩在一张平面的照片上时,“假象”已很难被拆穿;但凡观众主动地完善表演细节,把握好拍摄和网络传播的技巧,其“真实性”更是变得无懈可击。

后现代主义者对于这种情形早有定论,在杰姆逊(F. Jamson)看来,观众们通过表演和拍摄制造出的现实,并非真正的现实,而是现实的“影像”,这只能算作一种对真实的复制品 (simulacrum)。鲍德里亚(J. Baudrillard)的看法则更为激进, 他认为真实本身已然被“符码”所取代,人们彻底失去了对真实的体验,真实的基础也已宣告消失;于是他提出“超真实”(hyporeality)这一概念,之所以选用“超”这个词,意在表明它比真实还要真实。

从表演,拍摄到传播,观众以雷安的作品为素材,将“假象”逐步包装成“真实”, 最终达到了几乎无从拆穿的程度;“假象”非但没有变得更加荒诞,反而比真实更加真实。因此观众们的创作过程,本质上是在体验 “超真实”;而这一切在雷安的作品本体中,已经完成了“初始设定”。

在展览现场中,雷安将作品的“假象”的部分袒露给观众,比如“建筑”平铺于地面,可“进入”的泳池底部……而后,观众展开一系列默契的“共谋”:一面拍摄出逼真的照片,一面在内心清醒地意识到,自己鼓捣的那些“原材料”由始至终都是“假象”。雷安让所有参与创作的观众,体验到“超真实”的酝酿过程。然而,当他们走出这一切回到现实中,会猛然发现,自己所处的世界一直是“超真实”的无限循环。这种恐慌感,如同摘下眼罩后,眼前的黑暗丝毫没有褪去。

当人们在社交网络上分享动态时,展现出被精心雕琢过的“真实”;而在浏览他人的动态时,又往往将“超真实”错当成“真实”对待。尤其在智能设备,移动互联网渗入生活的今天,真实与非真实之间的界限愈发模糊不清,人们很难区分肉身的主体和网络上的主体,哪一个才是真实的主体;在后现代主义者看来,真实早已不复存在,整个社会只是由“符码”编造的经验结构。

当观众借由雷安的作品体验“超真实”的过程中,他们短暂地看到了真实与非真实之间的边界,并误以为自己拥有“去伪存真”的权力;而不多时,这条边界重新回到合拢的模糊状态,他们终将退回到“真实已逝”的世界。

或许,雷安选择用“太虚”来命名这场展览,就存在这样一个隐含动机;在现代媒介信息的控制下,真实变得如烟如尘,“超真实”的世界如同“太虚之境”一般,是脑海中带有异国情调的幻境,它渺远而虚无,却恰好停驻在真实的世界里;永恒的混沌锁住了真实,符码的背后只有无尽的符码。

Article VI

Event participants will participate in the event under the guidance of museum staff and event leaders or instructors and must correctly use the painting tools, materials, equipment, and/or facilities provided for the event. If a participant causes injury or harm to him/herself or others while using the painting tools, materials, equipment, and/or facilities, or causes the damage or destruction of the tools, materials, equipment, and/or facilities, the event participant must undertake all related liability and provide compensation for the financial losses. Persons not involved in the accident and the museum do not undertake any liability for personal accidents.

CAFA Art Museum Portraiture Rights Licensing Agreement

According to The Advertising Law of the People’s Republic of China, The General Principles of the Civil Law of the People’s Republic of China, and The Provisional Opinions of the Supreme People’s Court on Some Issues Related to the Full Implementation of the General Principles of the Civil Law of the People’s Republic of China, and upon friendly negotiation, Party A and Party B have arrived at the following agreement regarding the use of works bearing Party A’s image in order to clarify the rights and obligations of the portrait licenser (Party A) and the user (Party B):

I. General Provisions

(1) Party A is the portraiture rights holder in this agreement. Party A voluntarily licenses its portraiture rights to Party B for the purposes stipulated in this agreement and permitted by law.

(2) Party B (CAFA Art Museum) is a specialized, international modern art museum. CAFA Art Museum keeps pace with the times, and works to create an open, free, and academic space and atmosphere for positive interaction with groups, corporations, institutions, artists, and visitors. With CAFA’s academic research as a foundation, the museum plans multi-disciplinary exhibitions, conferences, and public education events with participants from around the world, providing a platform for exchange, learning, and exhibition for CAFA’s students and instructors, artists from around the world, and the general public. As a public institution, the primary purposes of CAFA Art Museum’s public education events are academic and beneficial to society.

(3) Party B will photograph all CAFA Public Education Department events for Party A.

II. Content, Forms of Use, and Geographical Scope of Use

(1) Content. The content of images taken by Party B bearing Party A’s likeness include: ① CAFA Art Museum ② CAFA campus ③ All events planned or executed by the CAFAM Public Education Department.

(2) Forms of Use. For use in CAFA’s publications, products with CDs, and promotional materials.

(3) Geographical Scope of Use

The applicable geographic scope is global.

The media in which the portraiture may be used encompasses any media that does not infringe upon Party A’s portraiture rights (e.g., magazines and the internet).

III. Term of Portraiture Rights Use

Use in perpetuity.

IV. Licensing Fees

The fees for images bearing Party A’s likeness will be undertaken by Party B.

After completion, Party B does not need to pay any fees to Party A for images bearing Party A’s likeness.

Additional Terms

(1) All matters not discussed in this agreement shall be resolved through friendly negotiation between both parties. Both parties may then sign a supplementary agreement, provided it does not violate any laws or regulations.

(2) This agreement comes into effect on the date that it is signed (sealed) and the relevant boxes are selected by Party A and Party B.

(3) This agreement exists in paper and electronic forms. The paper form is made in duplicate, with Party A and Party B each retaining one copy with the same legal efficacy.

Event participants implicitly accept and undertake all the obligations stated in this agreement. Those who do not consent will be seen as abandoning the right to participate in this event. Before participating in this event, please speak to your family members to obtain their consent and inform them of this disclaimer. After participants sign/check the required box, participants and their families will be seen as having read and agreed to these terms.

According to The Advertising Law of the People’s Republic of China, The General Principles of the Civil Law of the People’s Republic of China, and The Provisional Opinions of the Supreme People’s Court on Some Issues Related to the Full Implementation of the General Principles of the Civil Law of the People’s Republic of China, and upon friendly negotiation, Party A and Party B have arrived at the following agreement regarding the use of works bearing Party A’s image in order to clarify the rights and obligations of the portrait licenser (Party A) and the user (Party B):

I. General Provisions

(1) Party A is the portraiture rights holder in this agreement. Party A voluntarily licenses its portraiture rights to Party B for the purposes stipulated in this agreement and permitted by law.

(2) Party B (CAFA Art Museum) is a specialized, international modern art museum. CAFA Art Museum keeps pace with the times, and works to create an open, free, and academic space and atmosphere for positive interaction with groups, corporations, institutions, artists, and visitors. With CAFA’s academic research as a foundation, the museum plans multi-disciplinary exhibitions, conferences, and public education events with participants from around the world, providing a platform for exchange, learning, and exhibition for CAFA’s students and instructors, artists from around the world, and the general public. As a public institution, the primary purposes of CAFA Art Museum’s public education events are academic and beneficial to society.

(3) Party B will photograph all CAFA Public Education Department events for Party A.

II. Content, Forms of Use, and Geographical Scope of Use

(1) Content. The content of images taken by Party B bearing Party A’s likeness include: ① CAFA Art Museum ② CAFA campus ③ All events planned or executed by the CAFAM Public Education Department.

(2) Forms of Use. For use in CAFA’s publications, products with CDs, and promotional materials.

(3) Geographical Scope of Use

The applicable geographic scope is global.

The media in which the portraiture may be used encompasses any media that does not infringe upon Party A’s portraiture rights (e.g., magazines and the internet).

III. Term of Portraiture Rights Use

Use in perpetuity.

IV. Licensing Fees

The fees for images bearing Party A’s likeness will be undertaken by Party B.

After completion, Party B does not need to pay any fees to Party A for images bearing Party A’s likeness.

Additional Terms

(1) All matters not discussed in this agreement shall be resolved through friendly negotiation between both parties. Both parties may then sign a supplementary agreement, provided it does not violate any laws or regulations.

(2) This agreement comes into effect on the date that it is signed (sealed) and the relevant boxes are selected by Party A and Party B.

(3) This agreement exists in paper and electronic forms. The paper form is made in duplicate, with Party A and Party B each retaining one copy with the same legal efficacy.

Event participants implicitly accept and undertake all the obligations stated in this agreement. Those who do not consent will be seen as abandoning the right to participate in this event. Before participating in this event, please speak to your family members to obtain their consent and inform them of this disclaimer. After participants sign/check the required box, participants and their families will be seen as having read and agreed to these terms.
