严密的学科分类法面对日益抽象的社会问题似乎越来越束手无策。一系列新问题的解决有赖于研究者们走出各自为营的学术堡垒,消除文化上的劳动分工,以跨学科作为手段进行知识生产工作。与此同时,当代艺术的边界日趋模糊,来自不同领域、地域、数量飞速增长的参与者在艺术世界来去自由,促使艺术批评投入全新的智力讨论。
此次“跨学科写作计划”将艺术家雷安德罗·埃利希在中央美术学院美术馆的个展“太虚之境”作为首次写作对象,邀请到来自学院内外的研究者、工作者,从艺术家的创作实践出发,以各自的学科研究视角开展讨论,以期跨越艺术批评的范畴,进⼀步延展至⼈文与社会科学的相关领域,为观者拓宽观察艺术的不同视角,尝试以交叉学科的方法,介入对当代艺术问题的讨论之中。

水平横放的楼梯、悬浮的墙与窗、比现实更接近现实的镜像——雷安德罗·埃利希的作品给予观看者的直接感受,是熟悉感和陌生感之间的界线变得含糊不清。

当人进入日常活动的场域时,他的意识完全沉浸其中,毫不感到间离;而当他身处异地时,全然的陌生感将使他提高注意力。主体对空间的熟悉程度,甚至比那个空间本身所包含的内容,更要影响主体的意识状态:景观性的艺术作品与宗教建筑的其中一个元素,就在于建构一个自有其秩序的空间,以与混杂的日常空间区别开来。

熟悉感既然是空间认知的一个范畴,那么对熟悉感的操控也就可被视为一种技艺。然而,我们不能把熟悉感看成一种向量性的范畴,因为我们对空间除了感到较熟悉或较不熟悉之外,还有一种含糊不清、介于熟悉与陌生之间,并因而有着独特性质的感受:诡秘感。诡秘感有一个特殊规定性,它是一种意涵(sense)与另一种意涵触碰时的作用,而不是一种直接的、被动的、接受性的感官刺激。在雷安的作品里,沉浸在日常空间意涵的主体触碰到被切割、重设、拼贴出来的另一个空间意涵。正是这两种迥异但相似的空间意涵产生出含糊不清的感受。任何空间设计都是物理逻辑和控制技艺,但雷安的创作所真正涉及的并不只是空间的客体特性,而是日常意识自身的认知结构,他所操控的不只是空间设计,而且是空间熟悉感。

意涵之间的触碰
主体的认知机制,以及客体事物,都有着无限多种异质的、不平衡的意涵相互交缠。对黑格尔来说,思想常常错误地以单一种认知机制来理解异质的对象,而这种错误的根源,就是思想者自负地固守在一种意涵中,而无能在多样性和异质性之间转换或融合。知性(英语:Understanding /德语:Verstand)遵循空间广延原则,将事物看成相互排除和相互外在的单位[1],它的活动和意涵就是对事物进行排列、化约和交换。然而,一旦沉浸在知性的心灵面对崇高的、渗透在万物间的,因而无可交换的客体,即灵魂、上帝与始基(arche)时,知性的限制就暴露出来。对于这些崇高对象,我们要运用以理念性(ideality)为原则、能够将差异者统一起来,并且不需依附自然流变的理性能力。

在此值得我们关心的,并不是知性和理性的内容,我们只需注意,知性和理性是两个异质的机制,分别处理两种异质的对象。错误并不发生在知性或理性自身,而是发生在思想顽固地以知性来触碰理性对象时,换句话说,当思想转换不了意涵时,就会犯错。然而,黑格尔从来没有直接将错误当成无意义之物,他甚至指出每种错误都有它独特的情感风格:浪漫主义者施莱格尔(Friedrich Schlegel)认为人类只有有限的知性思维,因此一旦他触碰上帝这个无限者的概念时,只会感受到无限大的混沌和不可名状;而所谓的反讽(Irony),就是感受到这种对立的主体,表明无限性不能被理解、有限者不可超出自己的修辞手法[2]。施莱格尔所说的反讽并不是挖苦嘲笑的说话方式,而是悲剧的核心。

对黑格尔来说,悲剧反讽概念是有限性触碰到无限性时,因为思想无能转换意涵,结果重新返回到原来的有限状态中,并且将这种原来状态绝对化。与这种悲剧风格相对的,是立刻背弃原状、脱离日常意涵,想象自己能固定在无限性那一方的情感风格,即禁欲主义。但停留在日常意涵也好,或者是背弃原状也好,对黑格尔来说仍然是无能融合和连接意涵。当两种异质的意涵触碰时,心灵并不一定要以一个意涵取消另一个意涵,相反,意涵之间的并存和相互构成可以生成新的作用。

雷安的作品与黑格尔哲学在异质意涵触碰时的态度是共同的,他们都并不返回或固定在任何一种意涵里,而是在差异和差异的相互渗透中延滞着。我们在雷安的创作中看不到悲剧性,同样也看不到崇高性,里面既没有对陌生他者的敬畏感,也没有对熟知事物的鄙夷。我们绝对不能把这种双重缺失看成其创作失败,因为雷安刻意地、一贯地所建构的情感风格,正正要与悲剧性和禁欲主义相对立:游戏、幽默、诡秘——这些情感风格只能发生在二元之间的界限模糊处。《游泳池》可以说是雷安作品中包含着最多组二元性的:水面与水底、湿干、水影与清晰、池边的人与水底的人、游泳池与展馆空间,但是,真实与膺品这种二元关系却是不适用于此的。它的内涵在于并列而且刻意模糊各种二元性,并进而分解物理属性之间的关系:湿—水底—水影,干—池边—清晰影像这些关系确实在经验中常常共同出现,但在理念上却根本没有内在连贯性。《游泳池》有着显著的游戏性风格,这并非因为它是一个模拟真实的膺品,而是源于它表现出这些物理范畴完全可以被任意配合。

诡秘感对熟悉感的模糊
当然,雷安的作品与黑格尔哲学并不是同一回事。在意涵触碰这一维度上,雷安的创作比黑格尔的论述多出一种元素,即以上提过的诡秘感。一种意涵与另一种意涵触碰时引起的含糊不清感,也可以被称为诡秘(英语:The uncanny/德语:Das unheimliche)。弗洛伊德在1919年发表的诡秘感研究[3]是精神分析和文学批评的经典,但他并不是最早对诡秘感有兴趣的研究者。在19世纪初,谢林已经在他的神话哲学中将诡秘感看成是一个独特、明确的情感模态,并且指出它在艺术创作和宗教崇拜上的影响力。但最早对诡秘感作详尽研究的是詹池[4],他认为诡秘感是一种起源于智识不确定性(intellectual uncertainty)的恐惧感。当主体面对完全陌生和外来的客体时会引起恐惧,但这种恐惧还不算是诡秘感;只有当主体面对一个看似熟悉,但又处处表现出细微差异的客体,因而无法以习惯轻易下确实的判断时,他才会感受到诡秘。例如当人在半黑的环境中看到一尊蜡像时,因为无法确定这是真人还是仿真的死物,所以会产生诡秘感。虽然詹池主要研究艺术与小说作品中对诡秘感的运用,但他深受演化论的影响,认为诡秘感是人类求生本能的其中一种心理机制,用以驱使人确定事物的性质和危害性,其本质仍然是生理本能性的,而非审美性的。

弗洛伊德从来都不看重演化论,我们也不需要花精力争论诡秘感究竟是来自演化需要,抑或是与精神结构的原始创伤有关。詹池的推论最为弗洛伊德所不同意的,是他隐约地预设了诡秘感的可化约性:一旦主体的智识确定性提高,或者说,当客体的模糊性和危害性被排除时,诡秘感也就会随此消解。然而,对弗洛伊德来说,不确定客体的消失并不会减少诡秘感,诡秘感反而可以渗透到本来熟知的客体中。当我们看到有着仿真的五官、触感柔软的皮肤、姿势灵动的机械人时,我们固然会对这个诡秘客体感到不安,力求知道这是仿人还是真人,以消除不确定感。然而,我们既已意识到肉体性和姿势这些表象能够在机械人身上展现出来,我们就不能再自信十足地以同样的表象来鉴定面前的客体是人,抑或是仿真度极高的机械人。诡秘客体不单在呈现时模糊着熟悉感和陌生感,即使它消失后,我们对已熟知客体的理解根据也被动摇了;诡秘感并非依附着特定客体,而是主体的认知意涵被动摇,因此诡秘感是无可摆脱的。

在德语中,“unheimlich”[诡秘的]原本是“heimlich”[熟悉的、家常的]的否定式。但是,“heimlich”一词也可以指涉“隐藏的”、“被禁锢的”这一重反义,换句话说,“heimlich”本来就包含着“unheimlich”的意义。弗洛伊德正是从诡秘感能够动摇熟悉感这一点来解释这种用语现象,并且指出“heimlich”与“unheimlich”虽然在意义上存在差别,但并不是相互排除的概念,反而能够相互过渡。弗洛伊德理论最重要而很少被提到的一个原则,就是精神结构的不对称性和创伤的不可化约性,他以此原则所作的诡秘感研究提醒我们:不要期望透过移除诡秘客体来复归安全的熟悉感,而是要激进地承认熟悉感和日常意识自身是如何不稳定,一直隐含着自己的反面。
雷安德罗·埃利希的诡秘感
假如说雷安的创作方法有其对立面,这就是反讽:悲剧性是雷安作品不会有的元素,因为他并不是想给予观看者庄严感,甚至也不需要触动人去深思有限性。一个景观式的作品,不论其风格是梦幻的、神圣的、恐怖的还是复古的,它生产感觉的方法都是让观看者停留在一个超世俗的意涵中,但这种超凡意涵的效果依附着被观看的客体,因此对主体来说只能是临时和临场的,与他的日常生活有间离性。虽然没有事情会阻碍主体稍稍放下日常生活,去感受另一个意涵的作品,但两种意涵仍然是区分清楚的两个,而不是相互渗透。正因如此,即使是最悲愤和最严肃的作品,都可以对日常情绪进行净化作用(catharsis),反而稳住了日常性:流行影视作品中的悲剧作为一种与日常生活不一样的意涵,作用往往在于使观看者排解负面情绪,以让他平静地重新返回到日常秩序。

雷安德罗·埃利希的作品没有这重悲剧性和庄严感,这并不是因为艺术家无法生产这些直观感受,而是因为他的创作本来就是要模糊和打乱我们的日常空间经验,而不是透过与超凡事物对立来重新确立日常性的界限。雷安的作品不会使人感觉到沉重,但我们不能以为这种愉悦性是诡秘感的解药,恰恰相反,他的作品不断重设和拼贴我们熟悉的空间印象,使得诡秘感渗透进本来熟知的客体中——例如在《建筑》中,当我们看到镜像里的街道比反射物更接近日常视觉经验时,我们就无法不对日常视觉经验产生间离感,不得不宣布原本可以确定日常性的表象完全失效;而在《游泳池》中,我们也不能宣称作品只是膺品,因为它既分解了那些物理性质的联系,也就反而在证明经验习惯才是不真的。这正是雷安的创作技艺:刻意生产出不同意涵的触碰,让诡秘感延滞在主体感受中,让日常性也需要被重新建构。

If an event causes any degree of loss or damage to the museum site, space, artworks, or derived products due to an individual, persons not involved in the accident and the museum do not undertake any liability for losses. The event participant must negotiate and provide compensation according to the relevant legal statutes and museum rules. The museum may sue for legal and financial liability.

Event participants will participate in the event under the guidance of museum staff and event leaders or instructors and must correctly use the painting tools, materials, equipment, and/or facilities provided for the event. If a participant causes injury or harm to him/herself or others while using the painting tools, materials, equipment, and/or facilities, or causes the damage or destruction of the tools, materials, equipment, and/or facilities, the event participant must undertake all related liability and provide compensation for the financial losses. Persons not involved in the accident and the museum do not undertake any liability for personal accidents.
CAFA Art Museum Portraiture Rights Licensing Agreement
According to The Advertising Law of the People’s Republic of China, The General Principles of the Civil Law of the People’s Republic of China, and The Provisional Opinions of the Supreme People’s Court on Some Issues Related to the Full Implementation of the General Principles of the Civil Law of the People’s Republic of China, and upon friendly negotiation, Party A and Party B have arrived at the following agreement regarding the use of works bearing Party A’s image in order to clarify the rights and obligations of the portrait licenser (Party A) and the user (Party B):
I. General Provisions
(1) Party A is the portraiture rights holder in this agreement. Party A voluntarily licenses its portraiture rights to Party B for the purposes stipulated in this agreement and permitted by law.
(2) Party B (CAFA Art Museum) is a specialized, international modern art museum. CAFA Art Museum keeps pace with the times, and works to create an open, free, and academic space and atmosphere for positive interaction with groups, corporations, institutions, artists, and visitors. With CAFA’s academic research as a foundation, the museum plans multi-disciplinary exhibitions, conferences, and public education events with participants from around the world, providing a platform for exchange, learning, and exhibition for CAFA’s students and instructors, artists from around the world, and the general public. As a public institution, the primary purposes of CAFA Art Museum’s public education events are academic and beneficial to society.
(3) Party B will photograph all CAFA Public Education Department events for Party A.
II. Content, Forms of Use, and Geographical Scope of Use
(1) Content. The content of images taken by Party B bearing Party A’s likeness include: ① CAFA Art Museum ② CAFA campus ③ All events planned or executed by the CAFAM Public Education Department.
(2) Forms of Use. For use in CAFA’s publications, products with CDs, and promotional materials.
(3) Geographical Scope of Use
The applicable geographic scope is global.
The media in which the portraiture may be used encompasses any media that does not infringe upon Party A’s portraiture rights (e.g., magazines and the internet).
III. Term of Portraiture Rights Use
Use in perpetuity.
IV. Licensing Fees
The fees for images bearing Party A’s likeness will be undertaken by Party B.
After completion, Party B does not need to pay any fees to Party A for images bearing Party A’s likeness.
Additional Terms
(1) All matters not discussed in this agreement shall be resolved through friendly negotiation between both parties. Both parties may then sign a supplementary agreement, provided it does not violate any laws or regulations.
(2) This agreement comes into effect on the date that it is signed (sealed) and the relevant boxes are selected by Party A and Party B.
(3) This agreement exists in paper and electronic forms. The paper form is made in duplicate, with Party A and Party B each retaining one copy with the same legal efficacy.
Event participants implicitly accept and undertake all the obligations stated in this agreement. Those who do not consent will be seen as abandoning the right to participate in this event. Before participating in this event, please speak to your family members to obtain their consent and inform them of this disclaimer. According to The Advertising Law of the People’s Republic of China, The General Principles of the Civil Law of the People’s Republic of China, and The Provisional Opinions of the Supreme People’s Court on Some Issues Related to the Full Implementation of the General Principles of the Civil Law of the People’s Republic of China, and upon friendly negotiation, Party A and Party B have arrived at the following agreement regarding the use of works bearing Party A’s image in order to clarify the rights and obligations of the portrait licenser (Party A) and the user (Party B):
I. General Provisions
(1) Party A is the portraiture rights holder in this agreement. Party A voluntarily licenses its portraiture rights to Party B for the purposes stipulated in this agreement and permitted by law.
(2) Party B (CAFA Art Museum) is a specialized, international modern art museum. CAFA Art Museum keeps pace with the times, and works to create an open, free, and academic space and atmosphere for positive interaction with groups, corporations, institutions, artists, and visitors. With CAFA’s academic research as a foundation, the museum plans multi-disciplinary exhibitions, conferences, and public education events with participants from around the world, providing a platform for exchange, learning, and exhibition for CAFA’s students and instructors, artists from around the world, and the general public. As a public institution, the primary purposes of CAFA Art Museum’s public education events are academic and beneficial to society.
(3) Party B will photograph all CAFA Public Education Department events for Party A.
II. Content, Forms of Use, and Geographical Scope of Use
(1) Content. The content of images taken by Party B bearing Party A’s likeness include: ① CAFA Art Museum ② CAFA campus ③ All events planned or executed by the CAFAM Public Education Department.
(2) Forms of Use. For use in CAFA’s publications, products with CDs, and promotional materials.
(3) Geographical Scope of Use
The applicable geographic scope is global.
The media in which the portraiture may be used encompasses any media that does not infringe upon Party A’s portraiture rights (e.g., magazines and the internet).
III. Term of Portraiture Rights Use
Use in perpetuity.
IV. Licensing Fees
The fees for images bearing Party A’s likeness will be undertaken by Party B.
After completion, Party B does not need to pay any fees to Party A for images bearing Party A’s likeness.
Additional Terms
(1) All matters not discussed in this agreement shall be resolved through friendly negotiation between both parties. Both parties may then sign a supplementary agreement, provided it does not violate any laws or regulations.
(2) This agreement comes into effect on the date that it is signed (sealed) and the relevant boxes are selected by Party A and Party B.
(3) This agreement exists in paper and electronic forms. The paper form is made in duplicate, with Party A and Party B each retaining one copy with the same legal efficacy.
Event participants implicitly accept and undertake all the obligations stated in this agreement. Those who do not consent will be seen as abandoning the right to participate in this event. Before participating in this event, please speak to your family members to obtain their consent and inform them of this disclaimer. After participants sign/check the required box, participants and their families will be seen as having read and agreed to these terms.
